Ortial Memory and SSDs help children build their own computers
"You can use any manufacturer for RAM and SSDs and the only real difference is price. Brands like Intel are a lot more expensive and there is no real gain. If hard drives were failing all the time, then I wouldn't use them, but that's not the case"
Dave Millington, Director of ICT at Thorpe Underwood

THE BACKGROUND
Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate is an independent school for children aged 3 months to 18 years in Thorpe Underwood, which is between Harrogate and York. There are four sites on campus. The IT department has favoured mini computers for some years because of their small desk footprint and the opportunity they provide to refurbish IT equipment in house. Modular in design, children as young as 7 years of age are able to "rebuild" computers by salvaging components from old machines, buying replacement RAM and SSDs for broken parts, and assembling new machines.

THE CHALLENGE
The IT team at Queen Ethelburga's were looking for high quality SSD and RAM that would fit inside the Intel NUC Mini PC's but offer a lower price point than Intel parts. Since SSDs and RAM have become commodity items, they favoured a third party supplier that would flash within the system with no conflict.
Key Benefits
-
Third party RAM & SSDs 10% cheaper than Intel alternative
-
Proven compatibility with Intel NUCs
-
Easily assembled by children as part of ICT learning

THE SOLUTION
Ortial's preferred supplier Techbuyer suggested 8GB Ortial SODIMM RAM and 240GB SATA M.2 SSDs, which represented a cost saving of 10% compared to the Intel alternative. With no compromise on quality or performance, these components were 100% compatible with the NUCs, presented zero conflict, and were easily inserted into the mini computers by children as part of their ICT learning that term. The parts were also supplied with a lifetime warranty (RAM) and 10 year warranty (SSD) for complete piece of mind.
